Berries - Post-Production Woes
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008I wanted to get everybody’s thoughts on the post-production for the following image. I’ve been using Photoshop for a while, but I’ve just recently started using it specifically for post-production on my images, so I need all the feedback I can get. Anyways, here’s the original image:

The original was okay, but since I only had my telephoto lens with me at the time, I wasn’t able to get too close, and the in-focus berries here don’t stand out quite enough from the out-of-focus berries. So I decided to do some major color/contrast tweaks using a number of color adjustment layers in Photoshop. Here’s the result:

The colors in the above image remind me of the high contrast visual style of the movie 300 . . . which happens to look cool even with berries. However, even though I liked it, I was a little concerned that I would be the only one, so I decided to tone it down. So I copied the original image, placed it on a layer above the Frank Miller image, and reduced the opacity. Here’s the result:
